Dundonald Links to host 2017 Scottish Open
Dundonald Links has been confirmed as the venue for the 2017 Scottish Open. The relatively new Ayrshire course will play host to the event for the first time next year with many of the worlds top golfers sure to be in attendance.
Dundonald Links opened in 2003 when members of Loch Lomond golf club bought the land as it would offer them a course that is playable 12 months a year. Designed by renowned golf course architect 'Kyle Phillips' Dundonald has added to the array of championship courses in the west of Scotland. Within close proximity to Prestwick, Royal Troon (2016 Open Championship venue), Western Gailes and Turnberry, Dundonald adds a slightly more modern Links to the selection while still boasting traditional Links golfing values.
Dundonald is currently available in our 'Best Of West' Scottish golf package and can be added to any tailor-made Scottish golf vacation that you book through Scotia Golfing. In recent years the course has been going from strength to strength. Hosting European Tour Qualifying tournaments, Ladies European tour events (Ladies Scottish Open) and now being selected to host the flagship event of Scottish Golf.
Despite being 13 years old, Dundonald looks like a well established course that has been carved through the natural sand dunes that line each fairway. The course plays fast and firm and if the wind picks up it is sure to offer the professionals a stern test.
With Royal Troon hosting the 2016 Open Championship and now Dundonald being chosen as the venue for the 2017 Scottish Open, golf in the west of Scotland is enjoying a well deserved succesful period. Often overlooked for the east coast courses at St Andrews, the west of Scotland does offer some of the finest Links courses in world golf.
Scotia Golfing is able to arrange a unique golfing eperience which will give you the chance to experience the finest golf courses the west has to offer. It can also combine it with a selection of courses from other golfing regions to offer you a unique Scottish golf holiday.
