Golfing calendar 2016 %u2013 what's on this year

July 20, 2017 by

We might now be about halfway through the year, but there’s still plenty of golf to enjoy watching before we say goodbye to 2016. There are opportunities to enjoy much of that golf live on Sky Sports; however, you could find it worthwhile to, where possible and practical, book travel to see those players right in front of you, rather than on a screen. However you check out many of the golfing events to be held this year, it’s below that we detail some of the most promising.

August

Do you remember when golf was last played at the Olympic Games? Well, we somewhat doubt it, as it was actually at the 1904 games! However, the sport finally features once again with this year’s Olympics set to take place in Rio from August 11 to 14. The month also sees two tournaments in which golfers will be competing to reach the Ryder Cup; we’re talking about the Czech Masters and Made in Denmark, which will be held – respectively – from August 18 to 21 and August 25 to 28.

September

This month includes a number of notable dates in the PGA Tour calendar. The Tour’s season will be reaching its conclusion in September; while there will be a hundred players at the Deutsche Bank Championship between September 2 and 5, 70 players will enter the BMW Championship taking place from September 8 to 11, before 30 players contest the Tour Championship. That will happen during September 22 until 25 – will reigning champion Jordan Spieth successfully defend his title?

October

The beginning of October – well, actually, September 30, to be more specific – will see the start of the Ryder Cup at Hezeltine. Will Europe score a fourth consecutive victory in this competition? We’ll know how they have fared once it’s all over – until the next time, obviously – on October 2.

Professional golfers will take on film, sport and TV stars in Fife, Scotland, between October 6 and 9. That’s when the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships will be happening, with both teams – each consisting of 168 players – competing on three courses in turn before a final round at St Andrews’ Old Course on the last day. You can get to play on the Old Course yourself when you book our Ultimate Golf package; Kingsbarns and Carnoustie courses can also be enjoyed with this package.

November

If you’re a big golf fan, it’s the Finals Series that we think you should take most notice of this November. The European Tour for this series will take in the Turkish Airlines Open, which will run from November 10 until 13; the Nedbank Golf Challenge,

his title?

The European Tour for this series will take in the Turkish Airlines Open, which will run from November 10 until 13; the Nedbank Golf Challenge, which will last from November 17 until 20 at the Gary Player CC; and the season-finale, the DP World Tour Championship. This will be in Dubai from November 24 to 27, and is especially notable for the high amount of prize money it will offer. Will Rory McIlroy become European No 1 for the fourth time in five years? It’ll be fun to watch to find out.
